Telly introduces ChatGPT-powered voice assistant for its free ad-supported TV service
January 9 2024
Telly, a company that provides free 55-inch 4K TVs with a secondary screen displaying ads, is introducing a new AI voice assistant based on OpenAI’s ChatGPT on the lower screen of the TV, promising to deliver personalized experiences and recommendations to users by learning their preferences over time. The feature’s availability date has not been disclosed. In contrast to the limited functions of the current SoundHound-powered assistant, Telly’s new AI can offer personalized content such as event tickets or diet-specific restaurant suggestions. Telly reports shipping thousands of TVs with viewer engagement and ad recall rates significantly higher than the national average, specifically noting a 60 percent recall rate for a Kia campaign. At CES 2024, Telly is emphasizing its AI’s potential for personalization in line with industry trends. They also highlight the success of using the TV’s integrated camera for Zoom calls and introduce a “Zoom Watch Party” feature, along with a “T-Commerce” function enabling users to shop directly through ads on the second screen.
