Trust and Safety Head at OpenAI, Dave Willner, Resigns from His Position
July 21 2023
Dave Willner, the head of trust and safety at OpenAI, has announced his departure from the artificial intelligence firm to devote more time to his family. Willner, a veteran in the field who previously led safety teams at Facebook and Airbnb, had been in the role for a year and a half. His exit happens at a critical moment for AI, as OpenAI and others grapple with questions around regulation, mitigating harm, and ensuring safety and trust. Willner’s work had also evolved to tackle issues around preventing misuse of OpenAI’s image generator, Dall-E. With his departure, there’s uncertainty about who will lead the company’s efforts in these areas.
